We purchased this kit to help support our cat Bear (10-year-old rescue) with his recent CKD diagnosis, after he underwent major surgery to remove his right kidney about a month ago. The diagnosis took us all by surprise as right up until the evening we admitted him, he hadn't shown any of the typical symptoms associated with CKD. It was terrifying to have a happy and healthy cat in the morning, and by the evening we were admitting him to hospital in extreme pain.
The surgery was successful as they removed and biopsied the failed kidney, with his histopathology report revealing that he had a benign kidney lesion that had ruptured (causing the pain and excessive swelling) and damage consistent with chronic kidney disease, as well as signs of liver disease.
We knew when we adopted him that, being an older and ex-feral cat, we'd have to contend with a few extra health issues, so we'd already been thinking about some general immune system supplements prior to his hospitalisation. Given what happened, we got this kit to give him just that little bit more support alongside a pretty strict CKD management plan through our amazing vets. Initially, I was a little unsure about which products would be the most suitable for Bear or if his dose would need to be reduced due to him only having one kidney, so I emailed Erin for advice and she was brilliant too.
While we've only been giving Bear his supps for a little over a week now, we can already see that his coat is back to being as thick and shiny as it was pre-surgery, and he's gotten his playful energy back in spades! He's due for a blood test in a few months time and I'm looking forward to seeing more improvements as time goes on. We know that CKD isn't curable, but we're so grateful to have a product that allows us to give him extra support from home, and that's made by a genuinely lovely person who's passionate about what she does!
